"I knew I would get a personalized education, not just be another seat in a classroom of 300 people."
Why did you choose Point Park University?
I knew I wanted to attend a college near Pittsburgh, but the combination of Point Park’s downtown location and size led me to choose here. I attended an Admitted Students Day and had one-on-one conversations with my professors, an experience I did not get anywhere else. I knew I would get a personalized education, not just be another seat in a classroom of 300 people.
What do you enjoy the most about the accounting program?
All the professors really care about the students and look out for their success. They encourage everyone to get involved with the program and always make time for tutoring or academic advice.
What is something prospective students may not know about accounting? Why should they consider a career in the industry?
Accounting is one of the most reliable career fields because all businesses rely on it to understand how they operate. This means there are accounting jobs in every field, from traditional public accounting to sports, hospitality and theater. Accounting careers also offer quick salary progression.

Can you share what it’s like to intern at PwC? What does that look like each day?
I am interning at PwC for tax season through April. They have been incredibly flexible with my class schedule, so I work four days a week, with two of those days being remote. Since both Point Park and PwC’s Pittsburgh office are located Downtown (just two blocks away from each other!) I have been able to start work in the mornings, then leave early for class and come back in the evenings. I use many of the skills I have learned in my classes, including accounting concepts and Excel.
What real-world experiences have you had related to your major?
I have had three internships at two accounting firms, both within three blocks of Point Park. My experience in both internships has helped me decide to pursue a career in tax in the accounting field. It has also led to two job offers made before I graduate! Additionally, my role as treasurer for the Student Government Association has helped me solidify my core accounting skills and provided more leadership and management experience.
What are your career goals?
I plan to earn my CPA license within the first two years after graduation while working full-time as a tax associate at PwC. Then, I plan to follow the public accounting progression until I reach at least a managerial level over the next 10 years.
What advice do you have for prospective Point Park students?
Pick a school where you can get involved early on and in many different roles and organizations. This will naturally help you build a network and your future!
