Why did you choose Point Park University's M.S. in Information Systems and Business Analytics program?

Point Park’s M.S. in Information Systems and Business Analytics program offers a substantial curriculum that paves the way for a student to pursue an exceptional career as a data analyst, data engineer or business analyst. The combination of both data science and business analytics in this program allows students to explore and analyze data in various industries. Most of the technical courses focus on students’ overall development in the data science sector, which facilitates our professional growth and opens the door to many opportunities in this field. The M.S. in Information Systems and Business Analytics program gives students a competitive edge in business and beyond. Point Park’s well-designed curriculum provided me with a strong knowledge base that I use in my role each day. 

What does your new role entail, and what do you enjoy about it?

This is my first job in the U.S., which is really exciting. I work within the operational analytics team at Highmark, which is tasked with taking business decisions and providing optimal results in health care analytics. I am delighted to work with people who have great experiences, skills and knowledge at a company that strives to provide customers with better lives and positive experiences.

Which faculty members and courses had a significant impact on your education?

All of the faculty members in this program provided me with profound knowledge. Specifically, Jeffrey Seaman, M.I.S., had a great impact on my education and my current role. He brings a wealth of knowledge and vast technical skills to the classroom. His teaching methods have inspired me a lot. He makes sure every student shares their own thoughts on every topic that he teaches so that everyone is challenged to come up with their own new ideas and present their work to the class. All of the courses and topics he taught have helped me immensely in my new job.

What are the key benefits of the M.S. in Information Systems and Business Analytics program?

This degree equips you with expertise in communication, teamwork, project management and leadership. You learn how to break down technical information, which is helpful in aligning computer systems and tools with any organization's business goals. The program also prepares you for jobs that require advanced data analysis, decision-making and management skills.

Why would you recommend Point Park to a prospective student?

The Rowland School of Business provides students with a wide range of programs through which they can fuse real-world experience with intensive academic study. I recommend students participate in an internship program during their studies to gain more knowledge of real-life working experience, which will prove beneficial for their future careers. To that end, Point Park provides students with various opportunities and resources to utilize as they gain knowledge from scholarly, accomplished professors.

My advice to students is, "Don’t compare yourself with anyone else but yourself." Are you a little better than yesterday? Fantastic! Keep your eyes forward. You are doing great. Make an aim of having a good personality along with good marks when you graduate.
