"Pioneer Records introduced me to marketing myself as an artist by creating a network of people who can help me create."

Gabe Reed

Why did you decide to compete in the International Songwriting Competition?

I decided to submit to the International Songwriting Competition after seeing artists like Kehlani, Vance Joy, Bastille and Passenger participate prior years and get big recognition for it. I also was very curious to see what the response to my new music would be.

Gabe's new single and music video:

What are your fondest Point Park memories?

My fondest Point Park memories were getting to perform in all three spaces at the historic Pittsburgh Playhouse before it relocated to Downtown. Another fond memory was waiting in line for the West Penn Hall elevators. It never gets old.

How did becoming a Point Park University Pioneer Records artist impact you?

The main thing I learned was that meeting people in the business, who know the business, is an incredible opportunity for marketing and meeting artists and producers. Pioneer Records introduced me to marketing myself as an artist by creating a network of people who can help me create.

Gabe's video produced by Pioneer Records:

What advice do you have for prospective Conservatory of Performing Arts students?

My advice to prospective COPA students is to meet other people who are passionate about creating something and get those people to help you. Always have the clearest, original idea and let other artists give their opinion and really listen to what they have to say.

Final thoughts?

Stay true to yourself, but always listen.
