Update

Samantha now works for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

How did you land your summer internship with the Altoona Curve?

As part of the Intro to SAEM class, I job shadowed the director of merchandising at the Curve. We kept in contact and I let her know of my interest in interning with the team for the summer. She connected me to the assistant general manager and my current boss, Matt Hoover. I met with him in February and was then offered the internship.

What are your key responsibilities at this internship?

I am a game day intern and one of four interns responsible for all of the interactive promotions going on throughout the game. Our main job is to coordinate and direct all the game day entertainment happenings between innings as well as pre-and post-game. This includes organizing the contestants and activities and being on the field to make sure that everything runs smoothly. We also distribute programs and giveaways at the ballpark gates and assist fans at guest services.

What factors made you choose Point Park?

I love Pittsburgh and knew that I definitely wanted to attend college here. After visiting Point Park, I knew that its location and the great opportunities it provides for students to gain real-life experiences would help to jumpstart my career and get me where I want to be.

How is the SAEM program helping you reach your career goals?

Since switching my major to SAEM last year, I've had countless opportunities to gain hands-on experience and meet with professionals currently working in the industry. The SAEM professors are always willing to help in any way possible to see their students succeed. Being a part of the SAEM club has also allowed me to gain hands-on experience in planning and executing events as well as attend professional conferences such as Pollstar Live! in Los Angeles.
