As students consider their career paths while studying at Point Park University, an ever-growing network of alumni from the sports, arts, entertainment and music business (SAEM) program serves as great examples of how these hands-on experiences can lead to amazing opportunities.

Two of these alumni, Jeremy Olson '11 and Alison Maternowski '12, have impressive stories of their journey through the entertainment industry. Starting as student interns at Stage AE, both of these ambitious graduates soon found themselves climbing the leadership ladder at PromoWest/AEG, and now both serve as general managers at the company's unique venues.

"Live events are constantly evolving, and no day is ever the same," Maternowski said. "It’s a thrilling industry to work in. At the end of the day, we are making memories for all the guests who visit our venues, and that is very special."

Point Park's partnership with Stage AE has remained a strength for the program, with over a dozen students being offered full-time jobs at the venue after graduating. In addition to part-time roles, this open path to opportunities allows students to gain hands-on, industry-relevant experience through internships and unique class opportunities that utilize the venue. In the spring, some students even take to the stage as performers, making headlines for their performances.

"The biggest lesson I learned along the way was to never say no to opportunities that could either teach me more about the music business or create new connections," Olson said. "Some jobs I said yes to only to help pay for a new guitar or cover my rent, but I took away new skills from each experience."
