"I chose the sports communication program because I knew I could make industry connections. Plus, Point Park is within walking distance of all three major sports teams, which is a huge advantage for students."
Why did you choose to transfer to Point Park and major in sports communication?
I transferred to Point Park after I completed my associate's degree at the Community College of Allegheny County. Once I achieved that goal, Point Park was my first and last option. I chose the sports communication program because I knew I could make industry connections. Plus, Point Park's location in Downtown Pittsburgh is where all of the action happens. Point Park is within walking distance of all three major sports teams, which is a huge advantage for students.
Which faculty members and courses have had a significant impact on you?
I've learned so much about what it's like to work in this field in Roger Lenhart's Sports Broadcasting class. Professor Lenhart is an award-winning sports producer who invites industry professionals to our class to share their knowledge. Outside of the classroom, he's taken us off campus to experience a live production truck, which was amazing.
What student media and organizations are you involved in on campus?
- U-View: I am an anchor on Pioneer Sideline.
- WPPJ: I am the sports director and host of "The Austin Cairns Show."
- Sports Communication Club: I do play-by-play for a variety of sports, including soccer, baseball, volleyball and basketball.

What real-world experiences have you had related to your major?
I am grateful to have explored a variety of real-world opportunities because of Point Park's sports communication program. I've worked as a commentator for IWC Wrestling and 880 Wrestling, and I currently host a podcast, 2 Jagoffs, which is available on five platforms. I've had the privilege of interviewing Andrew Stockey, Bill Hillgrove, Rob King, and Tyler Palko, among many other notable professionals. Additionally, I've worked at PNC Park, the 2025 U.S. Open Championship and the Pittsburgh Steelers Training Camp.
What are your career goals?
My dream is to make it into mainstream wrestling as a commentator for WWE on the grand stage. I would also like to use my name and platform to give back to others by raising money to help local dog shelters, autism awareness programs and the homeless. In the future, I'd love to return to the classroom as a teacher.
What advice do you have for a prospective student?
Get involved and get involved early! Joining clubs and organizations helps you develop skills and grow your network, which is key to finding success in this field. I would also encourage students to shake every hand that presents itself to you, make an early impression and be true to yourself.
