Point Park University’s School of Communication partnered once again with KDKA sports director/anchor Bob Pompeani to host the Bob Pompeani High School Broadcast Award competition this semester.
The Pompeani Award recognizes the best high school broadcast show in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. Schools were required to submit a 15-minute high school broadcast show (news, sports or a feature show) that is taped or live.
The top schools — Penn-Trafford High School and River Valley High School — were invited to Point Park on Feb. 14 to do a live show. Penn-Trafford High School, the top-rated show that day, received a $1,000 award and a plaque from the School of Communication.
Bernie Ankney, dean of the School of Communication, said the competition was fierce.
“I have seen the broadcast shows of so many high schools in Western Pennsylvania," Ankney said. "They are excellent. The judges had a tough job picking just one high school to receive the Pompeani Award.”
Pompeani said he was honored to have the award named for him.
