What are your key responsibilities as an intern at Koppers?

So far at my internship, I've written employee news stories and social media posts that are shared with plant workers. I also assist with administrative and other communications-related tasks to support the team.

In what ways have you grown professionally as a result of this internship?

I've had a few internships here at Point Park, and each of them has been something different in the professional world. Particularly for Koppers, I'm learning what the corporate world is like, but more importantly what it's like working within a team where everyone is doing something different. I'm growing to appreciate everyone's skill set.

How has your Point Park experience prepared you for the internships you've held?

Point Park has provided me with so many valuable internship opportunities. Because of the University's location and connections in Downtown Pittsburgh, I've gained real-world experience working for Koppers, Allegheny Conference on Community Development, The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Incline.

On campus, I've had the chance to be a part of the Point Park News Service, which has has given me a solid foundation as I embark on my career in journalism. Both Helen Fallon and Andrew Conte have been great resources to help me learn and grow.

Why did you choose Point Park's School of Communication?

I chose Point Park because I heard so many good things about the journalism program. Plus, the Center for Media Innovation was a huge draw for me.

Why would you recommend Point Park’s journalism program?

I made so many connections and expanded my professional network because of Point Park's journalism program. Going to school in Downtown Pittsburgh has provided me with so many opportunities to further my career.

What are your goals for your senior year at Point Park?

My goal is to truly make the most of my experience before I graduate in December. I look forward to spending time with my friends, enjoying the city as a student and learning as much as I can.
