"The flexible structure of the journalism program allows students to gain experience in print writing, broadcasting and multimedia composition. It’s important to have a variety of options to choose from and the freedom to focus on specific areas of interest."

What are the three things you love most about Point Park and why?

I love Point Park's location in Downtown Pittsburgh. Being located in the city gives students a wide range of places to explore and events to attend like the Holiday Market in Market Square or Picklesburgh.

I also love the small class sizes. This allows us to have a prominent role in discussions and we can formulate deeper connections with one another. It’s valuable to be in a classroom where you’re recognized for your individual qualities and work, rather than just being seen as a number in a large group of students.

Lastly, I love that Point Park has so many unique clubs and activities. When I toured Point Park, I learned we had an Uno Club, which was one of the most popular clubs on campus at the time. When I was looking into other universities and their activities to get involved in, I had never heard of one so unique as the Uno Club, which made Point Park stand out even more when I applied.

What makes Point Park’s journalism program distinctive?

The flexible structure of the program allows students to gain experience in print writing, broadcasting and multimedia composition. It’s important to have a variety of options to choose from and the freedom to focus on specific areas of interest.

How has your minor in political science enhanced your education?

My minor often connects with my coursework in journalism. Most of the content I create for assignments or publications often reflects on the political endeavors of the U.S. government and abroad, so my minor helped with making my pieces credible and informative when covering politically-charged issues and events.

Describe your favorite professors and courses.

Helen Fallon, Tracey Belak, Gina Catanzarite and Dorene Ciletti are some of the best professors I’ve had at Point Park.

Tracey Belak's radio production course enabled me to enhance my skills in speaking, producing and editing radio packages. Additionally, I made these pieces unique to my personality, adding in music and audio clips to make my work stand out.

What do you like about being in the Honors Program?

The Honors Program challenges me to think outside of the box on the production of content for my major, as well as how I can contribute to the community.

How is Point Park preparing you for career success?

Point Park has prepared me for my career by offering courses that create the experience of working in a real newsroom environment. Through these courses, I have developed skills to further enhance the opportunities I have in my major and minor.
