Communication Professor Attends National Convention Thursday, August 21, 2025

School of Communication Professor Tatyana Dumova, Ph.D., took part in the national convention of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) held in San Francisco, Calif., Aug. 7-10, 2025.
As a co-chair of AEJMC’s History, Legacy and Impact Task Force, Dumova participated in the business meeting and activities organized by the task force for the organization.
“A legacy in an organizational context is a combination of enduring values, history and accomplishments,” said Dumova. “Organizations with a strong legacy are more equipped for success, as leadership rooted in legacy promotes strategic thinking focused on long-term outcomes rather than short-term results.”
In addition to her work on the task force, Dumova serves as an editorial board member for the association’s flagship scholarly journal, Journalism and Mass Communication Educator and took part in the board meeting. She attended conference panels and sessions, where she networked with other communications educators.
Dumova isn’t new to taking the lead within the School of Communication when it comes to engaging with AEJMC. At the 2024 AEJMC conference in Philadelphia, she presented “Student Engagement in a Diverse Classroom” and was a featured panelist at “Fostering Freedom & Defending Democracy: Three Presidential Initiatives.”
In 2023, Dumova became a winner of AEJMC’s Innovations in Teaching competition sponsored by the Visual Communication and Magazine Media divisions, and her students won AEJMC’s student magazine contest in the magazine launch category.
AEJMC is a major professional association for journalism and communication educators, with a history and legacy dating back to 1912.
