Point Park University's School of Communication welcomes the public to its next lecture on the photographic arts Fri., Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. in Thayer Hall's JVH Auditorium. The Speaking Light event will celebrate the work of Patrick Millard, artist, curator and Point Park educator who passed away unexpectedly in December.

The multimedia event will showcase Millard's photography, new media and sound projects, which express ideas about media, digital culture, technology and human beings' interactions with their synthetic environments. His work has been exhibited at the Art Guild New Jersey, TMG Gallery in Guarda, Portugal; Melbourne Fringe Festival in Melbourne, Australia, Workshop Gallery in Bialystok, Poland, Fox Art Gallery in Philadelphia, Los Angeles Center for Digital Art, Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, Colo., Icone Gallery in Coimbra, Portugal, and other locations.

Millard's photo series on Second Life investigates the life of the avatar, landscape of the sim environment and experience in the virtual world. His body of work also includes photographic, sound and digital media works resulting from his service as artist-in-residence at Biosphere 2.

Millard started the photographic arts lectures that will now celebrate his life and work. The Michigan native came to the University in 2010 to serve as an assistant professor of photography. His educational background included a Bachelor of Arts in photography from Grand Valley State University and a Master in Fine Arts in photography from Savannah College of Art and Design.
