School of Communication student Juliann Sheldon was crowned Miss Pennsylvania 2011 on June 18.

She will compete in the Miss America pageant at the Theatre for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas in January.

Sheldon, a public relations and advertising major, won the Miss Jewel of the West at the Western Regional Pageant in Kittanning in April, which qualified her for the Miss Pennsylvania pageant.

Along with the Miss Pennsylvania title, Sheldon, a Plum native, won a $7,000 scholarship.

During her year of service, Sheldon, 21, will speak about her personal platform, mental health awareness. In addition, she will support the Children's Miracle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising money for children's hospitals.

The Miss America pageant will be televised on ABC.
