Madeline McKain, a photography major and honors program student, earned a scholarship that allowed her to travel to Great Basin National Park in Nevada from Aug. 8-13 with the Partners in the Parks program.

Partners in the Parks is an outdoor experiential learning program that offers honors students and faculty the chance to visit national parks in the United States.

During her time at Great Basin National Park, McKain hiked; photographed landscapes, wildlife and caves; and helped park rangers catch snails for research purposes and draw blood from a pregnant rattlesnake.

Also over the summer, McKain won a contest to have her photography featured on note cards being sold as a fundraiser for the John E. Fallon Jr. Travel Fund, which supports student travel. Her series of five photos shows Pittsburgh in a cohesive but unique way. The note cards will be sold at upcoming department events.
