For the second year in a row, the Pittsburgh Center for Sports Media and Marketing welcomed leading Turner Broadcasting executive Jeff Gregor to speak to Point Park students during the spring semester.

Gregor, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for TNT and TBS and general manager of TCM, had lunch with students to answer their career-related questions on March 5. Following the luncheon, he led a one-hour PowerPoint presentation on The Strategy Behind Turner Classic Movies in the Lawrence Hall Ballroom.

"Classic movies are timeless," Gregor stressed to the group, ranging from aspiring broadcasters to filmmakers. "At TCM, our audience's passion is a central part of our success, so we surveyed our fans to better understand how much passion they have for our product compared to other brands."

Senior broadcasting reporting major Kenneth Musgrove said he took away a new lesson from this year's presentation.

"I had the chance to hear Mr. Gregor speak when he was on campus last year," remarked Musgrove. "This year I learned that it is important to know who your audience is so you can work to figure out how to keep them intrigued."

At Turner Broadcasting, some of Gregor's responsibilities include leading entertainment marketing and on-air promotions for TNT, TBS and TCM, overseeing programming on TCM and working to cultivate TCM's passionate fan base.

"This event was informative, fun and filled with a purpose," said Heidi Schlegel, a senior majoring in cinema arts. "These types of events are incredibly beneficial to students because they give us a sense of excitement and determination to one day reach such a level of success."
