What do you enjoy most about your job at Viacom CBS?

I love learning about the marketing side of the entertainment industry. It's taught me so much about what makes the industry tick.

I've been able to gain a deeper understanding of how to process and make decisions based on data — which is a huge decision-making factor for content.

I've gained a ton of insight into the world of streaming as well. I'm confident this knowledge will only benefit me moving forward.

There are so many possibilities for career paths in this space, and my job continues to give me an amazing foundation of experience. My team is also unbelievably supportive and caring, so that makes every day enjoyable.

In what ways did your Point Park experience prepare you for professional success in the industry?

The most valuable thing Point Park gave me was a supportive network of people. From my professors to my classmates, I know I have a group of people behind me to give me advice, lift me up and challenge me. Especially during this weird time with COVID, people who were simply acquaintances at school are now the same people I invited to Thanksgiving while stuck in Los Angeles or I text when there's an earthquake at 4 a.m.

Additionally, having the hands-on filmmaking experience was priceless. Knowing set etiquette and general production speak is invaluable even in my role as a marketer. It was also the most fun I've ever had!

What advice do you have for prospective students?

Have fun during your time at Point Park. Cinema production is hard work, but make sure you take time to enjoy every minute of it because it will fly by. Feel confident to explore what interests you, and do your very best to treat folks with kindness. You're running on little sleep, lots of coffee, and the drive to make the best film possible, but don't lose sight of how far patience and kindness will go.

And, of course, don't feel obligated to move to a major industry city, like LA or New York, if that's not your dream. The work you create is valid and success can happen anywhere!
