"Attending SETC is a wonderful opportunity for our students to network with theatre companies around the nation, hear lectures and workshops, participate in job interviews and learn about the newest technology on the expo floor. All of these experiences are extremely valuable for our students' path to professional success. I am very happy for Rose and Brianna who put themselves on the 'national theatre map' with these honors."

Meet Rose Egan

Major: B.F.A. in theatre production (design) '22
Hometown: Westmoreland County, Pa.
High School: Norwin High School
Dream job: Set designer

What does it mean to you to be recognized by SETC?

Being recognized is a huge honor for me. It was a great experience to meet with Rachel Hauck, who was this year's scenic adjudicator, and discuss my creative process for the design. Rachel is a set designer based in New York and is known for her designs on Broadway such as Hadestown.

How did your Point Park experience prepare you for this role?

The various production courses in areas of drafting, designing and 3D renderings at Point Park prepared me for the creative process as a production designer. The amazing staff and faculty at the Pittsburgh Playhouse have also been beneficial to my development as an artist.

How have you grown as an artist since beginning your studies and training at Point Park?

I've had tremendous growth over the years at Point Park. I came from a background as a scenic painter in high school to now being able to design sets for shows.

Meet Brianna Herr

Major: B.F.A. in theatre production (design) '21
Hometown: Butler, Pa.
High School: Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School
Dream job: First hand at a costume shop

What does it mean to you to be recognized by SETC?

It was so exciting to be recognized at SETC. It made me feel like all of the work I have put in at Point Park has been worth it.

Tell us about the hands-on experience you’ve had in your major.

I chose Point Park because of the hands-on experience I would gain in my major. I've worked as a first hand and a stitcher on so many shows. Working in the costume studio at the Pittsburgh Playhouse has allowed me to grow as a technician.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I am confident that my training and experiences at Point Park have given me the foundation to land a job in the theatre or film industry as a costumer or a technician.
