Darlene Marnich, Ph.D., has been appointed founding Dean of the School of Education at Point Park University.

Prior to her appointment, Marnich held the title of professor and chair in the School of Education. As Chair, Marnich helped establish the School of Education at Point Park in 2018 and has overseen a number of accomplishments. Among the most significant examples of her visionary leadership is creating the first doctoral program at the University, the Ed.D. in Leadership and Administration.

Other milestones in the School of Education include certifications for programs in Pre-K through Grade 4 and Grades 4 -8, two special education programs (Pre-K through Grade 8 and Grades 7-12) and three master's degree programs (Teaching and Leadership, Secondary Education leading to Pa. certification and M.Ed. in Athletic Coaching).

“Years before the pandemic became a reality, the School of Education emphasized programming and delivery methods," Marnich said. "With each step students have always been the focus. This student-centered approach is the foundation of the success we have today and as dean, I look forward to continuing a leadership role at this most critical time.”

“Dr. Marnich is an innovative, thoughtful, dynamic academic leader," Point Park University Provost John Pearson, Ph.D., said. "In naming her the founding Dean of the School of Education, we recognize her long-time work with faculty creating excellent academic opportunities for our students. In many respects, this title acknowledges the work Dr. Marnich has done since the establishment of the School of Education. I am excited and proud to recognize Dr. Marnich for her extraordinary work."

“Darlene works tirelessly to bring the best academic opportunities to our students. She is a powerful advocate for the School of Education and will be a strong voice among University leadership,” Point Park University President Paul Hennigan said.

“Assuming the position of founding Dean, Darlene will become even more visible in the greater community, maintaining strong relations with local and state education entities, forging new relationships, creating new opportunities, and building even greater support for the School of Education,” Hennigan added.

Marnich is a long-time resident of Grove City, Pa. She is a graduate of Grove City High School and was a liaison for many years between the Grove City Rotary Club and Point Park, raising funds for the community through an annual auction.
