ESPN Honors Brashear-Point Park Emerging Educators Partnership Friday, September 18, 2026

Pittsburgh Brashear High School is being honored by ESPN and the College Football Playoff Foundation for its Emerging Educator program. The school will receive a $1,000 award as part of the College Football Playoff Foundation’s Extra Yard for Teachers Initiative. The CFP Foundation is the largest sports entity dedicated to supporting teachers.

The Emerging Educators at Brashear’s Center for Technical Education is an innovative program in partnership with Point Park University’s School of Education. Emerging Educators students have opportunities to engage in meaningful experiences, earn college credits and begin preparing for their futures as educators while still in high school. 

Through the unique partnership, high school students are dual-enrolled in college classes with Point Park faculty, which can help them accelerate their bachelor's degree. In addition to classes taken at the high school, students come to the university for one class each semester. This fall, students are enrolled in Children's Literature. Last year, they completed Educational Technology and a math course.

"The great thing about this partnership is that these students get to 'see' themselves as college students who can succeed," said Virginia Chambers, Ed.D., dean of the School of Education. 

The $1,000 award was presented during the Pitt vs. Syracuse Sept. 17 game at Pittsburgh’s Acrisure Stadium, featuring a special segment filmed at Brashear. 

“We are thrilled to be recognized by ESPN and the CFP Foundation organization,” Chambers said. “Students in the Emerging Educators program are on a career path that offers them the opportunity to change and shape lives for the better. We’re honored for their hard work to be celebrated.”
