"Many of our students work full-time and attend classes in the evenings. The Livestream Campus option means that students can fully participate in classes from their office or home. This approach provides an opportunity for students to interact and collaborate with professors and classmates in real-time."

Karen McIntyre, Ph.D., professor and director of the Ed.D. in Leadership and Administration program

Point Park University's School of Education is adding a third option for completing the Ed.D. in Leadership and Administration program. The new Livestream Campus option is a synchronous class format that allows students to participate in live, real-time instruction from the comfort of their own home, office or whatever location they choose.

The idea to launch the new style of instruction stems from an increase in current students’ desire to work remotely while also interacting live with professors and classmates. The approach has proven formidable as faculty and students continue working through classroom constraints sparked by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"In the School of Education, we work for the students,"said Karen McIntyre, Ph.D., professor and director of the Ed.D. in Leadership and Administration program. "As educators, we want to utilize methods that best educate our students and properly prepare them for their future. For these reasons, when we saw a decrease in students coming to campus because of COVID and an increase in remote learning, we decided to explore options. This past year, we have found that students have embraced the challenges that come with remote learning and have grown accustomed to learning this way. Many students who had the option to return to campus decided to remain remote because they feel the benefits of remote instruction are the same as that of on-campus."

"Many of our students work full-time and attend classes in the evenings," McIntyre said. "The Livestream Campus option means that students can fully participate in classes from their office or home. This approach provides an opportunity for students to interact and collaborate with professors and classmates in real-time."

Why offer three options for one program?

Individual learning styles vary, and, in the School of Education, we are always striving to find the best ways to meet all our students' needs. When we can provide students with a variety of options, we can enhance their learning. As a learning community, we have seen the greatness that is achieved when students have options.

How will this help students advance in their careers?

This doctoral program is focused on leadership and responding to the challenges that are before us. The Livestream Campus option will enable students from a larger geographic area to collaborate with classmates on critical issues pertaining to leadership effectiveness.

How does this set Point Park's School of Education apart from other universities?

The School of Education prides itself on preparing future leaders in an array of areas. We need to review and improve our programs and offerings continuously. By doing this, we not only remain a true leader in the field of education, but we also remain responsive and innovative. We want to continue to offer School of Education students the best education possible that can be achieved in numerous ways.

How will current students and incoming students enroll in the Livestream Campus option?

We welcome applications for admission to our doctoral program based on student preferences for learning modalities. Students should follow the application link and select their delivery preference. It is important to remember that the course requirements and content are the same regardless of instruction mode.

What are current Ed.D. students saying about the Livestream Campus option?

"Completing the Ed.D. program with our cohort remotely through live, synchronous instruction has been fantastic! We can learn, collaborate and grow, all while doing so from a preferred setting. Instruction has maintained rigor and integrity, while allowing us to balance both a professional career and schooling." – Michael Linnert

"The Livestream Campus option has been a perfect entry point to Point Park University. This option is personalized to meet students where we are based on our current situation, but it does not compromise the high level of graduate level instructional design. Our learning has been engaging, dialogical, stimulating and cohesive. The professors have been creative to engage us with flexible lesson design, advanced technology resources and myriad thought-exchange platforms." – Melissa Pearlman

"I am not typically fond of online asynchronous learning because I am a social learner, so being able to participate 'live' made all the difference!" – Amy Mathieu
