The work of four emerging artists of Pittsburgh is the focus of a new exhibition at Point Park University's Lawrence Hall Gallery.

The word Kaleidoscope refers to a new exhibit opening at Point Park's Lawrence Hall Gallery Space in March 2013. Entitled Point Park Project 1: Kaleidoscope, the exhibit opens Friday, March 22 and runs through May 12.

Point Park Project 1 is the first in a bi-annual series of exhibitions created to showcase exceptional artistic talent from the Pittsburgh region and to draw visitors to the dynamic Lawrence Hall Gallery space, located at the corner of Wood Street and the Boulevard of the Allies.

The exhibition is a collaboration between Point Park University and The Andy Warhol Museum of Pittsburgh.

According to John Tomayko, Ph.D., owner of TomaykoArts and member of the Point Park University Board of Trustees, "Point Park Project 1 is an exciting way for the University to launch this series of art exhibitions and provide artists living and working in the Pittsburgh region an opportunity to share their unique and personal works."

Point Park Project 1: Kaleidoscope artists were selected by four students from the University of Pittsburgh, under the direction of Nicholas Chambers, the Milton Fine Curator of Art at The Warhol Museum.

"The exhibition provides a unique platform for emerging curatorial and artistic voices in the city and draws together seemingly disparate practices while proposing shared interests in themes such as absurdity, humor and psychedelia,' said Chambers.

The artists featured in the exhibit include:

  • Di-Ay Battad, a multi-disciplinary artist working primarily in video and animation
  • Katie Mackowick; an artist whose visual art spans collage, mixed media, and drawing
  • Chris McGinnis, an artist whose work is concerned with modern technology and its impact on the human experience
  • Daniel Luchman who works primarily with video, sculpture and installation art, to use the elements of time, space, and interactivity that allow for the communication of ideas through experience

The exhibition opens Friday, March 22. It is free and open to the public Monday - Thursday, 8 a.m. - 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. For more information, call the Lawrence Hall Gallery information line, 412-392-8008.
