Point Park remains open following tremors

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

According to news media reports, a earthquake of 5.9 magnitude occurred in central Virginia just before 2 p.m. today, and tremors were felt in the Pittsburgh area. There are no reports of damage here.

As a precaution, Point Park University officials are checking all operating systems in campus buildings.  The campus remains open and operating normally.

Please check back for any updates.

Point Park students, faculty and staff may sign up for the PointAlert system to have campus safety messages sent directly to their mobile phone.

In light of today's events, the University community may want to review guidance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency on What to Do During an Earthquake.
