About the Campus Program Grant

In 1994, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) was passed to improve actions taken to help those affected by domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. The goal was to increase visibility in services provided to those affected. The Department of Justice (DOJ) permanently enacted the Office on Violence Against Women to implement the VAWA in 2002.

In 2021, Point Park University applied for the Campus Program grant from the DOJ Office on Violence Against Women. The university's strategic plan was approved by the DOJ in February of 2023 under the leadership of Maria Lewis, the Project Director appointed in August of 2022.

The Campus Program grant funds are utilized at Point Park University to assure on-campus and off-campus resources are available for survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking (DVDVSAS). Point Park Universty's Office of Violence Against Women also advocates for students on campus by offering events, training, and awareness in crimes against women.*
