Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What time should I arrive?

Check-in will generally be 8:00-9:00 a.m. for all sessions. A final itinerary will be sent out a few days prior to each session to the email address used to register online for Pioneer Experience (preferably your Point Park email address).

What time will I be finished?

Transfer one-day sessions and the second day of the two-day first-year sessions generally end around 4:30 p.m. A final itinerary will be sent out a few days prior to each session to the email address used to register online for Pioneer Experience (preferably your Point Park email address).

Is there an orientation fee?

The orientation fee for first-year students is $130 and $100 for transfer students. The Pioneer Experience fee is assessed upon course registration to the student's tuition bill. Students who do not attend the program will still be charged the fee, as it is tied to course registration.

All students are permitted to bring two guests at no additional charge. Additional guests over the two included in the orientation fee will be charged an additional $20 per person. Payment for additional guests is made at the time of Pioneer Experience check-in, either in cash or by check payable to Point Park University; debit/credit cards are not accepted.  All guests must be registered in advance of the Pioneer Experience session. Please contact the Office of Student Engagement for questions.

Please note, child care will not be available for younger children.

Overnight Accommodations

Overnight accommodations are only provided for first-year students attending the two-day Pioneer Experience. Housing for these sessions will be in one of our first-year residence halls, and students will be placed with another student attending Pioneer Experience. Bedding will not be provided (see What should I bring?).

Pioneer Ambassadors (PAs) are upper-level students who will be your leaders throughout the program and will be present overnight in the event that an emergency arises.

Transfer students, family members, and guests seeking overnight accommodations can reference the list of nearby hotels for off-campus accommodations, if needed.

When can I pick up my student ID?

How do I finalize my class schedule?

Each student will have the opportunity to meet with a faculty advisor and Center for Student Success coordinator to make any changes and finalize their schedule before leaving the Pioneer Experience.
