B.S. in Mechanical Engineering

One day you will design and develop industrial equipment and systems, or perhaps enter a specialized field such as robotics, aircraft engine design or liquefaction of gases. You'll need the analytical and design skills such as ANSYS® and Pro/ENGINEER®, which we provide.

Our Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering technology program focuses on the application of scientific and engineering principles to the design of mechanical and thermal systems, manufacturing processes and quality control for specific utilization and cost analysis.

You'll benefit from small class sizes, evening and weekend classes, easy credit transfers, internship and on-the-job credits, independent study and hands-on experience in specialized laboratories.

Accreditation

The mechanical engineering technology program at Point Park University, accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET (www.abet.org), prepares graduates to work productively as mechanical engineers in industry or government or to earn advanced degrees. Graduates of the program are eligible to pursue licensure as professional engineers in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and most other states.

Transfer Credits

Subject to the review of the faculty, incoming students may receive credit for previous course work at comparable institutions or for technical experience gained on the job. Agreements with other local institutions allow Point Park students to register for courses that are offered elsewhere, giving them the opportunity to pursue subjects not taught on campus during a particular term.

Class Schedules

A full schedule of evening and weekend classes gives our students in the mechanical engineering technology program the ability to earn a B.S. degree while working full time during the day. We have  a long history of educating part-time working students and offering additional resources and assistance.

Program Requirements

You will gain a solid theoretical foundation of mathematics and science as the basis of study of required technical courses in mechanics, thermodynamics and heat transfer, fluids, and materials.

Many of the science and technology courses supplement their lectures with laboratory experiences using equipment and computer software typical of those found in industry, ensuring that graduates of the program are familiar with current technical practices and are able to apply theory to real-world situations.

Internships, which may carry University credit, are available with local companies for students who wish to obtain work experience during their studies.
