Three international students from Indonesia, Syria and Italy came to Point Park University to earn an M.B.A. degree.

Applying as a graduate student to a U.S. university doesn't have to be complicated - and it's not at Point Park University.  Ours is a simple process, as our ISSE Office serves as a single point of contact, helping you through the entire process - from completing the application, to scholarship review, to immigration documentation and more.

Requirements for ALL Graduate Programs:

  1. Complete the online application - Apply Now Free
  2. Request official post-secondary transcripts from all  institution(s) aatended and have them sent to Point Park University. All non -Engligh transcripts must also include English translations.   **Due to transcript issues, students from Ghana, Cameroon and Nigeria must go through World Education Services or International Consultants of Delaware for course-by-course transcript evaluation and verification. NO ELECTRONIC TRANSCRIPTS FROM STUDENTS OR INSTITUTIONS ORIGINATING FROM CAMEROON, GHANA OR NIGERIA WILL BE PROCESSED FOR ACCEPTANCE.   3. Official TOEFL or IELTS results, if applicable,  with a test date of no more than two years. (Point Park University TOEFL Institutional Code is 2676).
  4. Two Letters of Recommendation . Your references should be in a position to assess your potential for successful gradaute study , most notably current or former employers or professors. NOTE: MFA candidates are not required to submit letters.
  5. Personal Statement of Future Goals (two page maximum)
  6. Current Resume/Vitae.
  7. GRE scores are not required except for the MA in Media Communication, MA in Communication Technology, if applicable

Specific Admission Requirements - Graduate programs

 

SCHOOL OF ARTS AND SCIENCES

 

M.S. in CRIMINAL JUSTICE ADMINISTRATION (Fall start only)

 Undergraduate GPA of 2.75 required for full admission.

A 500-word statement explaining the applicant’s motivation for seeking graduate education, professional experience, and career goals.

Submit a current resume.

Two letters of recommendation—one preferably from a current/former professor addressing the applicant’s academic ability for graduate work, and the other letter from a current/former employer.

Students should have successfully completed research methods and quantitative methods classes.

Minimum TOEFL score of 550 (79 IBT), with a test date of no more than two years OR minimum IELTS score of 6.5 with a test date of no more than two years OR completion of a PPU approved English language proficiency program

 

 M.A. in INTELLIGENCE AND GLOBAL SECURITY (Fall and Spring start)

 Undergraduate GPA of 2.75 required for full admission.

A 500-word statement explaining the applicant’s motivation for seeking graduate education, professional experience, and career goals.

Submit a current resume.

Two letters of recommendation—one preferably from a current/former professor addressing the applicant’s academic ability for graduate work, and the other letter from a current/former employer.

Minimum TOEFL score of 550 (79 IBT), with a test date of no more than two years OR minimum IELTS score of 6.5 with a test date of no more than two years OR completion of a PPU approved English language proficiency program

 

 M.A. in CLINICAL-COMMUNITY PSYCHOLOGY (Fall and Spring start)

Undergraduate QPA of 3.0 is required for full admission.

500-word statement of purpose is required that addresses how your professional experience and career goals relate to graduate study.

Courses completed in psychology, behavioral science or a related discipline preferred.

Minimum TOEFL score of 550 (79 IBT), with a test date of no more than two years OR minimum IELTS score of 6.5 with a test date of no more than two years OR approved completion of a PPU English language proficiency program

 

M.S. in ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT (Fall and Spring start)

 Applicants must have an engineering, engineering tech, or related undergraduate degree.

Undergraduate QPA of 2.75 required for full admission.

Minimum TOEFL score of 550 (79 IBT), with a test date of no more than two years OR minimum IELTS score of 6.5 with a test date of no more than two years OR completion of a PPU approved English language proficiency program

 

 M.S. in ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES (Fall start only)

 Applicants must have 6-9 undergraduate credits in university science coursework completed.

Undergraduate QPA of 2.75 required for full admission.

Minimum TOEFL score of 550 (79 IBT), with a test date of no more than two years OR minimum IELTS score of 6.5 with a test date of no more than two years OR completion of a PPU approved English language proficiency program

 

 MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (M.B.A.) (Fall and Spring start)

 Minimum undergraduate QPA of 2.75 for full admission.

A 500-word statement of purpose is required which addresses how your professional experience and career goals relate to graduate study.

Submit a current resume.

 

M.A. in COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (Fall and Spring start)

A 500-word statement explaining your motivation and expected benefit in attaining this degree is required.

Undergraduate QPA of 2.75 required for full admission.

Applicants with undergrad QPAs below 2.75 overall and/or less than 3.0 in their major are required to submit official scores from the Graduate Record Examination

Letters of recommendation must be from current and/or former professors or employers.

Applicants are encouraged to include a resume and/or examples of professional work.

Minimum TOEFL score of 550 (79 IBT), with a test date of no more than two years OR minimum IELTS score of 6.5 with a test date of no more than two years OR completion of a PPU approved English language proficiency program

 

 M.A. in MEDIA COMMUNICATION (Fall and Spring start)

 A 500-word statement explaining your motivation and expected benefit in attaining this degree is required.

Undergraduate QPA of 2.75 required for full admission.

Applicants with undergrad QPAs below 2.75 overall and/or less than 3.0 in their major are required to submit official scores from the Graduate Record Examination.

Letters of recommendation must be from current and/or former professors or employers.

Applicants are encouraged to include a resume and/or examples of professional work in journalism and mass communication professions.

TOEFL score of 88iBT with an essay score of 5 or higher taken within two years of application date – no IELTS or ESL/English language completion certificate considered for admission

 

CONCURRENT M.B.A./M.A.

 Student must apply and be accepted to each program. Please follow both the M.B.A. and M.A. in Media Communication requirements.

 M.F.A. in WRITING FOR THE SCREEN AND STAGE (Fall start only)

Submit an artistic portfolio consisting of the following three components:

  1. Personal essay
  2. Creative and professional resume
  3. Portfolio of writing samples not to exceed 25 pages

All portfolio materials must be submitted online through app.getacceptd.com/pointpark. Applicants are required to create an account to begin the online submission process.

An in-person or phone interview is required of all candidates.

Ed.D. program in Leadership and Administration

  • Official transcripts from all previous institution(s) attended sent to Point Park University. A minimum 3.25 graduate G.P.A. is required for admittance.
  • Current resume detailing all previous educational/administrative experience
  • Statement of purpose (minimum three pages; maximum five pages) addressing your reasons for pursuing a terminal degree and why you feel Point Park's program will best suit your needs
  • If applicable, a TOEFL or IELTS score to be sent directly to Point Park University
  • Submit three letters of recommendation. All letters should address your ability to work successfully under multiple demands. Recommenders may be contacted by Point Park University:
    • One from an academic reference who is familiar with your academic career;
    • One from a professional reference who can speak to your work performance individually and with colleagues; and
    • One from an individual who is familiar with your integrity and commitment to improvement.
  • TOEFL minimum score of 95 IbT with a minimum of 24 or higher in sub scores Writing and Reading or
  • IELTS minimum score of 7.0 with a minimum band score of 7.0 in both Writing and Reading
  • Once all materials have been received and reviewed, selected applicants will be invited to participate in a required interactive, observed discussion with other candidates, the program director, and additional faculty. During this session, candidates will also be asked to generate an additional writing sample.

Ph.D in Community Engagement

  • Official transcripts from all previous institution(s) attended sent to Point Park University. A minimum 3.25 graduate G.P.A. is required for admittance.
  • Current resume detailing all previous educational/administrative experience
  • Statement of purpose (minimum three pages; maximum five pages) addressing your reasons for pursuing a terminal degree and why you feel Point Park's program will best suit your needs
  • If applicable, a TOEFL or IELTS score to be sent directly to Point Park University

Please note: Doctoral programs are not eligible for scholarship consideration.

English Language Proficiency

Point Park University, in partnership with Duquesne University and ELS Language Center, provides a variety of options in English language instruction. Successful completion of Duquesne's advanced ESL or ELS level 112 allows you to matriculate to Point Park without taking the TOEFL or IELTS test to most of our programs.

Point Park University will accept proof of completion of Duquesne University's advanced level B or ELS Language Center Intensive Level 112 as satisfying the requirements for English proficiency. Students who have met Point Park's academic requirements but have not satisfied the English requirements, may apply for conditional admission based upon eventual completion of either the required Duquesne University or ELS Language Center level or one of Point Park's accepted standardized test such as TOEFL or IELTS.
