Pioneer Card Information FAQ

1. What credentials do I need to get a Pioneer Card?

You must first have a valid form of government-issued photo identification. Students must also be registered for at least one University course in the current or upcoming semester. Faculty and staff members must be fully processed by Human Resources prior to their arrival at the ID Center.

Accepted forms of identification:

  • Driver's license
  • Passport
  • State issued identification
  • U.S. military Identification

2. How much does the Pioneer Card cost?

The first card is free. The replacement fee for lost, stolen or damaged cards is $25. Students may charge the replacement fee to their student account. If the card is expired or defective at no fault of the cardholder the replacement fee may be waived.

See instructions on how to view or pay your replacement fee online.

3. Is someone else allowed to pick up my Pioneer Card for me?

No. You must pick up your official Point Park University ID card in person and provide a valid government-issued photo ID.

4. Do I get a new Pioneer Card every year?

No. If well cared for, your Pioneer Card will last you throughout your time at Point Park University. You will need to request a replacement card if your Pioneer Card is damaged, lost or stolen.

5. May I take a new picture for my card?

We can re-shoot your photo but only as part of the replacement card process, which carries a $25 fee.

6. My Pioneer Card expires this year - what do I do?

If you are still eligible for a Pioneer Card, we will exchange your old card at no charge no sooner than one month prior to the date of expiration. Therefore, if you are a student and your Pioneer Card expires in June, you may get a new Pioneer Card starting in May - provided you are registered for at least one course in the upcoming summer or fall terms.

7. What should I do if I lose my Pioneer Card?

Report the lost card immediately to prevent any unauthorized use. During normal business hours, call the ID Center at 412-392-8066 or visit our office located on the eighth floor of Frontier Hall (100 Wood Street). After business hours, you call the Department of Public Safety at 412-392-3960.

If you would like extra time to locate a misplaced Pioneer Card, you may request use of a temporary access card. A temporary card may be used for a maximum of two business days. There is no charge for a temporary card as long as it is returned to the ID Center by the assigned due date, otherwise, a charge of $25 will be applied to your account. Your Pioneer Card will remain deactivated while the temporary card is in use. Temporary cards cannot be used to pay for meals at campus dining locations.

8. May I punch a hole in my card so I can hang it from a lanyard or keychain?

No. Your card contains a proximity chip and wiring that coils throughout the card. Punching a hole in your Pioneer Card could render it useless and cost you $25 to replace.

9. What should I do if my building or door access stops working?

To report a problem with your Pioneer Card or an electronic reader contact the ID Center at 412-392-8066. The ID Center is located on the eighth floor of Frontier Hall (100 Wood Street). ID Center staff will verify that your access permissions are correct and active. If your Pioneer Card is damaged, which may cause access problems, you should stop by the ID Center to request a replacement card. There is a $25 fee to replace a damaged card.

10. I have a dual role at Point Park University. Do I need two cards?

No. A person may only carry one active Pioneer Card at a time. Your primary classification within the University database will determine what type of card you are issued. Our system will assign only one classification - either faculty, staff or student.

As an example, if you are a staff member and a student you will be issued a staff card. Your role as a staff member is considered your primary classification. If you have a student card now, we will issue you a new staff card at no charge. If you already have a staff card then you will continue to use that card.

Or, if you are a graduate student and a graduate assistant, you will be issued a student card. Your role as a student is considered your primary classification.

11. What if my role changes?

If you change roles, you can receive a new Pioneer Card to reflect that change. Status changes must be verified by ID Center staff prior to issuance of a replacement card.
