Background

Amber Epps brings more than two decades of experience in higher education, nonprofit and community leadership, consulting, entrepreneurship and the arts. Her experience includes roles as executive director, chief operations officer, director of education and Arts & Commercial District Manager for the Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation. Epps is also the founder and principal strategist of Fly Buffalo Consulting Group and owner of Arts and Crafts: Botanica and Occult Shop.

She has taught across disciplines including communications, mass media, student success, information systems and technology, computer programming, database development, user experience design, project management and IT ethics at institutions including American Public University, La Roche University, Community College of Allegheny County, The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, South University and ITT Technical Institute. Her teaching draws from both academic and professional experience, connecting theory and research to organizations, communities and contemporary social issues.

Epps is also a visual artist, musician, curator and published author. Her installation "Homage," a series of ancestor altars and works inspired by African diasporic spiritual traditions, was exhibited at Pittsburgh International Airport from 2022 to 2023. Through art, music and writing, she also explores incarceration and the carceral system while centering the voices and experiences of people directly impacted by it. Her broader creative practice involves community, identity, power, spirituality, equity and social change. She is also a member of the #notwhite collective.

Fun Fact: Epps completed Point Park University’s Brewing Science Academy in 2022, where her team brewed a winning Hefeweizen!
