Background

Prior to joining the faculty at Point Park University, Amy DeLuca, Ed.D, served as the Director of Student Services for the North Allegheny School District. In this capacity, DeLuca oversaw the development and implementation of comprehensive student support programs, leveraging data-driven strategies to enhance academic achievement and the personal well-being of diverse learner populations. Her administrative leadership is characterized by a commitment to fostering inclusive educational environments and streamlining systemic processes to ensure service excellence and regulatory compliance.

DeLuca’s professional expertise is further established through her former role as Division Chief for the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Bureau of Special Education. She had executive oversight for the administration and management of the West Division, offering expert consultative services to school administrators regarding the evaluation and local planning of special education programs. With profound proficiency in the PA School Code and federal special education regulations, she was instrumental in the statewide development of special education plans and the management of state-level complaint investigations.

As a full-time assistant professor at Point Park, her pedagogical approach emphasizes the cultivation of critical thinking skills and intellectual exploration, providing academic advisement and mentorship to students entering the field of education. During her 18 years at the Pennsylvania Department of Education, she chaired the State Task Force on the Right to Education and served as a member of the Pennsylvania Developmental Disabilities Council.

In addition to her degrees, DeLuca maintains professional certifications as a Reading Specialist and a Supervisor of Special Education. Her career is defined by her dedication to ensuring that exceptional students receive a free and appropriate public education through effective advocacy and systemic leadership.
