Press Forward is a national coalition designed to strengthen communities by supporting local news and information. Our 44 chapters across 34 states coordinate regional investment, identify community information needs, and support sustainable solutions tailored to their area. Each local chapter is rooted in the understanding that strong communities and strong local news go hand in hand.

Press Forward Southwestern Pennsylvania formed in early 2024 with the goal of unifying the local foundation community in support of journalism across southwestern Pennsylvania.  The work benefits the larger public by ensuring the Greater Pittsburgh region continues to have robust local journalism in support of democratic institutions and civic engagements.

The Center for Media Innovation at Point Park University convenes the chapter with The Benter FoundationThe Heinz EndowmentsHenry L. Hillman Foundation;  The Pittsburgh Foundation; and the Posner Foundation of Pittsburgh.

As a chapter of the national movement, Press Forward Southwestern Pennsylvania convenes regional funders and stakeholders to support local news that values collaboration, connection and community across 10 counties in southwestern Pennsylvania.

Vision

A sustainable present and future for trusted local new and information to help make communities across southwestern Pennsylvania stronger and more connected.
