Online Programs Admission Process

At Point Park University, our goal is to make the application process as streamlined as possible. Each applicant works with a personal enrollment counselor who will assist you throughout the process.  Your counselor can provide information on program options, transfer credits, and financial aid so that you can make the most informed decision possible.

Applications are encouraged well in advance of each term.

Calculating Transfer Equivalencies

(for individual class transfer)

Point Park offers the tool below to help to determine credit transfer from other institutions. If you do not find the institution or course you are looking for, it does NOT mean that Point Park University does not accept credits from that institution or that the University does not transfer that course. The database below is not comprehensive; Point Park will be adding institutions and courses on an ongoing basis.

The tool we use to help students explore their transfer options is Transferology. To see how the credits will transfer from one school into Point Park University, create a user account and login. This will help you determine how credit you've previously earned will transfer towards your degree at the University.

Login to Transferology.

**This information should be used as a guide and does not take the place of an official evaluation of transfer credit by Point Park University.

Please contact your admissions counselor for additional assistance.
Note: Courses equivalencies are subject to change.

Prior Learning Assessment

Get Credit for What you Already Know

Point Park University offers Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) for students with select qualifications and expertise. The University evaluates your credentials to see how much credit you are qualified to receive. When you earn credit through PLA, you may save a significant amount of money and complete your degree more quickly.

Work experience, military service and technical training are all examples of ways you may have developed the experience and knowledge needed to earn PLA credit. The exact credit awarded is determined using one of following methods:

Credit by Examination

Programs like the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) and the DANTES Subject Standardized Test (DSST) give you the chance to prove your proficiency in general education areas like introductory math, writing, business, and science. These exams are available for just a fraction of the cost of a college course, and if you're in the military, you may be able to take the exam for free.

UExcel® Credit By Exam

When you’re looking for extra flexibility, UExcel exams let you earn credit by exam rather than by taking a course that requires you to complete assignments and take multiple tests on a schedule.

You don’t have to enroll in a degree program to take UExcel exams, and you can earn credit for exams in business, liberal arts, science, technology, and more.

Advanced Placement (AP) Credits

  • A score of 3 or higher will be reviewed for course equivalency. Some programs/requirements may require a higher score.
  • Official AP score reports must be sent to our mailing address for credit evaluation.

*Other sources of experiential learning may be considered for credit. These credits do not fulfill any of the minimum 30 credits that must be completed at Point Park University to graduate. Contact an enrollment counselor to learn more.

Prior Learning Assessment Portfolio

Portfolio Completion and Submission

  1. Students will complete the “Prior Learning Assessment Portfolio Application” form.
  2. Students' will include the following elements in their PLA portfolio submission(s):
    • Cover Sheet – This should include the student’s name, address, contact information, and the course code and title for which the PLA portfolio was created.
    • Summary – This is a brief explanation of why experiences are equal to the college-level credit requested. Students will relate how their learning/experience aligns with the objectives from the course syllabus. (There is a suggested length of 1 page.)
    • Items of Evidence– Items of evidence will show that students understand both the theories and applications of the discipline.

See more details on documentation, the submission process, and evalutation process here.
