The Point Park Alumni Association Board is committed to strengthening institutional pride and advancing the University’s mission by supporting engaged, strategic, and mission‑aligned programs and initiatives. The Board collaborates closely with Point Park University leadership, the University Advancement Office, and departments and schools across the University. Much of this work is executed through the Alumni Board’s committees, which contribute to student recruitment and retention, alumni recognition and engagement, and lifelong alumni involvement as ambassadors of Point Park University in their industries and communities.

 
Mission: The Point Park University Alumni Association Board of Directors (the Board) is committed to upholding the University’s mission, vision, and values through voluntary participation of its members, and seeks to create a more accessible, inclusive, equitable, and engaged alumni community.
 
Vision: The vision of the Board is to be an active alumni presence and voice that holds itself and the University responsible for representing the ongoing physical, emotional, and financial welfare of the University community.
 
Values: The Board values the tenets of shared governance, mutual respect, empathy, equity, and inclusion.
 
Ethos: The Board aims to promote the interest and welfare of the University; to foster effective communication between the University and alumni; to provide a means of closer fellowship among alumni; and, to foster an atmosphere that promotes alumni engagement with the University through events, programs, volunteer and speaking opportunities, and participation in philanthropic activities.

 

The Point Park University Alumni Association

  1. The Alumni Association is a non-dues-paying body, consisting of all persons who have earned a degree or certificate, or have taken coursework towards a degree from the University. 
  2. The interests of the Alumni Association are represented by the Alumni Association Board of Directors composed of University alumni volunteers.
  3. Members of the Alumni Association at large have no voting rights on the Board of Directors

Board Member Expectations: To be considered a board member in good standing, individuals must adhere to all applicable University rules and regulations, policies and procedures, as well as federal, state, and local laws. Board members must also adhere to the expectations listed in the commitment form that they sign on an annual basis.

Distinguished Alumni Award (DAA) Committee

The Distinguished Alumni Award Committee oversees the annual process of recognizing alumni who exemplify the mission, vision, and values of Point Park University. Honorees are celebrated during Homecoming weekend each year.

Distinguished Student Award (DSA) Committee

The Distinguished Student Award Committee manages the annual selection process for one graduating undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral student who demonstrate academic excellence, community service, and exemplary character.

Distinguished Student Success Scholarship (DSSS) Committee

The DSSS Committee selects the annual recipients of the John V. Hopkins Scholarship and the Alumni Association Scholarships. Selection is based on financial need, academic merit, a written essay, and an interview.

Friends and alumni may contribute to the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund during Point Park’s annual Day of Giving in the Fall or at any time by designating this fund when making a gift to the University.


Community Engagement Committee

This committee partners with the Center for Civic and Community Engagement on various initiatives, manages the nomination and selection process for the Distinguished Professor Award, and organizes or participates in a range of University and community activities. Committee members represent and elevate the voice of the broader Point Park alumni community on and around campus.


Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Committee

The DEI Committee supports the Center for Inclusive Excellence and the University Advancement Office by providing alumni insights on programming, processes, and initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion University‑wide.


Mentorship Program Committee

In collaboration with Student Affairs and the Career Readiness Center, the Mentorship Program Committee helps connect students with alumni mentors in their fields of interest. The committee supports first‑year student persistence, career readiness for upper‑level students, a sense of belonging, and the transition from student to lifelong alumni engagement.


Enrollment Advisory Committee

This committee partners with the Enrollment Management and Marketing office to support recruitment initiatives and events, serve as ambassadors to prospective students and families, provide alumni insight on messaging and market positioning, and assist with outreach efforts that highlight the value of a Point Park education.


New Member Interest and Onboarding Committee

The New Member Interest and Onboarding Committee reviews and evaluates applications for Alumni Association Board membership, makes selection decisions, and oversees the onboarding process for newly appointed members.

The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented to Point Park University alumni who exemplify the mission, vision, and values of Point Park University. They have positively contributed to their communities - personal and professional - upon graduation and are someone who Point Park University would be proud to recognize. They are individuals who contribute to society through academic and professional excellence as well as foster a community of mutual respect and diversity, encourage innovation, ensure integrity and ethics in their actions, and facilitate civic engagement.

The Distinguished Student Award is presented each year by the Point Park University Alumni Association Board of Directors, to one graduating undergraduate student, one graduating master's student and one graduating doctoral student. The award winners are chosen on the basis of academic excellence, volunteerism/community service, and exemplary character. The Board is in search of students who are great assets to the Point Park community as a whole.

The Distinguished Professor Award is presented annually to one faculty member who has made a significant impact on the lives of their students. This award is unique in that it is entirely based on nominations and votes from Point Park alumni. The Distinguished Professor Award not only recognizes outstanding educational contributions, but also celebrates the longlasting bond between faculty and alumni.
