POSITION:                  Part-time Mail Center Clerk 

CLASSIFICATION/UNION:   United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union, AFL-CIO, CLC - Local 1088 Clerical Unit  (non-exempt)                                       

DEPARTMENT:                     Physical Plant/Mailroom                                             

REPORTS TO:                       Vice President for Operations

REQUIREMENTS:                 High school education; demonstrated ability and/or experience with receiving functions; experience in a customer service environment; three-five years related experience preferred; knowledge of postal regulations recommended; good communication skills. Job requires physical demands such as repetitive lifting of light weight objects with frequent bending and stooping, or repetitively lift average weight objects where frequent bending or stooping alternates with lighter activities. Occasionally lefts heavy objects (over 50 lbs).

PRIMARY FUNCTION:          Support Mail Center Operations

DUTIES:

  1. Communicate and provide service with delivery personnel with regard to parcels and other items as required
  2. Receive, document, organize and store parcels and other Mail Center items
  3. Monitor the receiving area and provide customer service as needed.
  4. Perform Mail Center and receiving operations.
  5. Maintain knowledge of US Postal regulations and policies regarding parcels
  6. Participate and successfully complete training for Mail Center/Receiving support staff and/or student work-studies.
  7. Respond effectively and timely to requests and needs of faculty, staff, and students in matters related to receiving operations.
  8. Stock incoming parcels and mail within the Mail Center for distribution to faculty, staff, students and university community.
  9. Log express parcels and prepare pick-up cards for all parcels utilizing postage scale and meter.
  10. Maintain daily record and account of parcels used for each department.
  11. Lift, carry, and move mail sacks, boxes of supplies and other heavy materials.
  12. Ability to learn and utilize applicable University computer database systems. 
  13. Perform other duties as required or assigned.
