POSITION:                Assistant Coach - Women’s Basketball 

DEPARTMENT:         Athletics

REPORTS TO:           Head Coach - Women’s Basketball 

CLASSIFICATION:    Full Time (12-month position)

WORK SCHEDULE:   Fully on-campus position

 

BASIC FUNCTION:  The assistant coach is responsible for directing and administrating certain assigned portions of the sport’s program including coaching, recruitment, and monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Masters degree in Coaching, Sport/Athletic Management, Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, Education, or other closely related field desired.
  • 1 to 3 years experience in coaching and/or athletic administration desired.
  • Budgeting, planning and computer skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the sport through excellence in coaching.
  2. In consultation with the Head Coach:
    • Market and promote sport program.
    • Participate in athletic department major fundraising efforts.
    • Develop a sport schedule.
  3. Assist with the development and implementation of Game Environment and Community Engagement initiatives within the program and athletics department.
  4. Responsible for adhering to and documenting compliance with the policies and regulations of the University, Department of Athletics, and NCAA; responsible for the orientation of student-athletes and boosters to these guidelines.
  5. Oversee the conduct and discipline of student-athletes.
  6. Plan and implement practices and games as directed.
  7. Assist with meeting the team specific annual recruitment goal of student-athletes.
  8. Supervise pre-season and post-season conditioning.
  9. Maintain professional conduct.
  10. Situation appropriate professional attire required at all times.
  11. Abide by all compliance and regulatory expectations of the department, including but not limited to:
    • Point Park Athletic compliance.
    • NCAA Division II bylaws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Title IX and CLERY Act Regulations.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITES:

Responsible for knowledge and implementation of NCAA rules and regulations in the areas of amateurism, eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, playing and practice seasons, and awards and benefits.  Coaches are expected to fully cooperate and participate in compliance related policies and procedures, within the institution and NCAA guidelines.  The Assistant Coach’s responsibilities include:

  1. Attend and participate in education meetings.
  2. Review NCAA rules with student-athletes when necessary and reinforce the importance of compliance.
  3. Facilitate the provision of all information necessary to determine prospective student-athlete eligibility.
  4. Monitor the permissible number of contacts and evaluations utilized.
  5. Provide complete and accurate expense reports.
  6. Provide complete and accurate required information for all official visits.
  7. Ensure the team’s compliance with NCAA rules related to playing and practice seasons including weekly athletically related activity logs.
  8. Educate student-athletes regarding the NCAA regulations governing employment.
  9. Annually pass the NCAA Coach’s Certification Exam.
  10. Follow the established process for renewal and non-renewal of athletically-related Financial Aid.
  11. Ensure compliance with NCAA Bylaws regarding uniform logos, complimentary tickets, and summer camps.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Physically active sporting environment, with frequent high intensity activity with coaching.
  • Office work and a significant amount of event planning and coordination.
  • Moderate activity that may include lifting and pushing.
  • Frequent evening and weekend hours.
