POSITION:               Assistant Lighting Supervisor

DEPARTMENT:      Pittsburgh Playhouse

REPORTS TO:         Lighting Supervisor

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Assistant Lighting Supervisor assists in day-to-day operations of the lighting department in the Pittsburgh Playhouse, including hang, focus, programming, and troubleshooting. This position will assist in the monitoring and responding to issues that may arise during performances and technical rehearsals. It will also support Playhouse special events and efforts at the GRW Performance space.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least three years of experience as a professional theater or entertainment lighting
  • Ability to work at heights including the use of personnel lifts as well as ladders, catwalks, and stage grids of up to 100ft
  • Knowledge of EOS family programming software
  • Experience with and understanding of standard theatrical lighting
  • Experience with and knowledge of basic theatrical
  • Ability to interpret lighting paperwork including ground plans, sections, light plots, and electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge of basic computer networking, specifically related to theatrical lighting systems. Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 programs, Vectorworks and Lightwright
  • Knowledge of electricity, wiring, and
  • Experienced in the use of basic hand and power
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic math

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide technical support for Lighting department on produced, presented, and rental content in the Pittsburgh Playhouse and GRW Performance Space. This includes Load-ins, performances/events, and strike. (55%)
  2. Supervise and work along with student crews on an as needed basis. (20%)
  3. Assist with the maintenance of Lighting equipment. Maintain orderly work and storage spaces. Assist in maintaining appropriate supply inventories. (10%)
  4. Program electronic consoles as needed for productions or events, primarily EOS family lightboards (10%)
  5. Additional related duties as assigned. (5%)

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Regular exposure to unfavorable conditions such as weather conditions, or confined, noisy, or dirty locations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires repetitive lifting of light weight objects with frequent bending and stooping, or repetitively lift average weight objects where frequent bending or stooping alternates with lighter activities. Occasionally lifts heavy objects (over 50 lbs).

Job requires repetitively lifting average weight objects with repetitive bending and stooping. Frequently lifts heavy objects but alternating with lighter activities. Job may require physical exertion such as long periods of standing. Job may require above-average agility and dexterity.

Mobility within the office. Ability to walk, sit, stand and climb stairs. Ability to use hands and fingers, to handle office equipment, records and files. Occasionally required to reach with arms and hands, and to stoop, kneel or crouch. Vision abilities required by this job include the ability to read and discern written errors on paper and electronic documents. Ability to talk and hear. Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
