Anjinee Carlisle

As a Marine, what inspired you to become an accountant?

While in the military, I worked in logistics and had the pleasure of working alongside comptrollers who were both civilian and military personnel. I learned a lot about the accounting field from the people I met and that sparked an interest in me to become an accountant.

Some of my work helped me to learn about budgeting, auditing and internal controls. I was able to pick the brains of accountants who had done a multitude of jobs. Their stories, advice and general satisfaction in their work inspired my decision to pursue an education in accounting. While being active duty, I began taking classes online to get started on my educational goals.

Why did you choose Point Park University?

After exiting the military, I had more time to learn about the vast number of careers that the accounting field has to offer. I read online about Point Park University and I knew that it was a possible fit for me.

After visiting campus, I realized that I loved the location and that the academic programs I was interested in would provide me with the opportunities I wanted so I decided to transfer to Point Park.

As an accounting and information technology double major, how have your classes impacted you?

My classes in both accounting and information technology have been amazing! I feel like I am learning more than I imagined I would learn and I love that all of the professors can pull from their experiences and provide insightful, real-life examples that are relatable.

What are your career goals?

After graduating, I plan to sit for the CPA exam and hopefully land a job shortly after. I would also like to continue my education and start working towards a master’s degree. As of now, I want to work in auditing, but that may change with time.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

I have enjoyed all of the faculty and staff I have encountered so far at Point Park. They have all shared so much knowledge with me and made learning fun again. I also appreciate and would like to thank Professor Cheryl Clark for nominating me for the FEI scholarship award.
