How did you land your role at TV One, and what does it entail?

My friend and fellow alumna, Monae Findley ’20, was on the social media team at TV One and told me that they were looking for their first-ever Marketing and Creative Services Project Manager, and she referred me for my current position! My job responsibilities include coordinating off-channel marketing and creative service projects. I ensure that the networks' projects are delivered on time and produce measurable results. I am responsible for each project's organization process, making sure my internal team communication is clear with our clients, the planning process is documented, and the timeline is visible within our project management tool.

Why did you choose Point Park for both your bachelor's and master's degrees?

I found Point Park through a friend who was studying dance, and she encouraged me to apply. At the time, I was really interested in COPA, specifically cinema, and I was enrolled as a COPA student in Fall 2016. I later changed my major to broadcasting production and media management due to my change in interest, and I absolutely loved it! My professors and peers were amazing.

I decided to attend Point Park for graduate school because I heard amazing things about the MBA program and the Rowland School of Business. I wasn't quite ready to leave Point Park, Pittsburgh or Amanda Avampato, the assistant director of Accessibility, Equity and Inclusion. I was also offered the MBA graduate assistant position for Archish Maharaja, CFP, CPA/PFS, Ed.D., and Sally Polnyj, which helped me pay for my studies. I am forever grateful for that experience in working with Arch and Sally.

How did our broadcasting and MBA programs prepare you for this new job?

My broadcasting and MBA classes were very informative. Everything I learned in class, I can tie back to my position. Roll-out schedules, digital and social media calendars, marketing toolkits and entertainment law material are all subjects I learned in the classroom.

What did you gain from concentrating in Sports, Arts and Entertainment Management and International Business for your MBA?

I have always had a huge passion for entertainment work, and, through my SAEM classes, I was able to learn the language of entertainment, the do's and don'ts and how many jobs are out there for that specific work. From the international business standpoint, I am able to apply business strategies across many different cultures and have a great understanding of major global issues.

Describe some of your most impactful experiences as a broadcasting major.

In 2018 I traveled to the annual Broadcast Education Association conference and National Association of Broadcasters show in Las Vegas.

I interned for The Bert Show in Atlanta and was able to use everything I learned in my radio classes during my internship.

I interned for the Fulton County Television Station in my hometown and loved every moment of it. I remember my supervisors being really impressed with all the skills I obtained at Point Park.

I also interned for Derek Blanks Photography and used the editing and lighting skills I learned in video production and graphic design.

I had amazing opportunities granted to me the entire time I attended Point Park!
