"I would recommend Point Park because having Downtown Pittsburgh as your campus is unlike any other college experience. The location allows the University to foster great connections with businesses and organizations that hold significant value for students starting their careers."

How did you land your role at the WPGA, and what does it entail?

I landed my role with the WPGA from the internship program created by Point Park. My career counselor asked my what I was interested in and introduced me to an internship with the WPGA. That internship then turned into a full-time position with the organization. As the director of member services, I am in charge of creating and maintaining the relationships with member clubs in our region. I will also assist in course rating, handicapping and running tournaments with the association.

How did Point Park's SAEM program prepare you for career success?

The SAEM program provided me with the skills and knowledge that allowed me to feel comfortable and confident when applying for jobs. I had several different work experiences prior to graduating to prepare me for the workforce. The thing that impressed me the most about Point Park was how many relationships they had in the sports world. I was able to work for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Pirates and Steelers. This is something that I never expected to be possible going into college. I believe that those experiences led me to where I am today.

Were there any faculty members who had a significant impact on your Point Park experience?

Professor Robert Derda, M.S., made a strong impact in my development throughout my time at Point Park. He is one of those professors that really cares about you and wants you to be successful. A staff member that helped me through this process was Jessica Boston in the Professional Career-Readiness Center. She was my career counselor and prepared me for my interview. She also had helpful knowledge and connections with employers in the city. Without Professor Derda and Jessica, I would not be in the position that I am today.

My golf coaches Carmen Costa and Bob Salera also had a significant impact on my Point Park experience. They were more than just golf coaches. They made sure that we were always doing well in school and that our education came first. Some of my favorite moments in college came from the different golf trips and tournaments that we attended.

What are your favorite Point Park memories?

My favorite Point Park memories stem from the location of the campus. Being able to walk to Penguins and Pirate games and just explore Downtown Pittsburgh is something that I will never forget.

Why would you recommend Point Park to a prospective student?

I would recommend Point Park because having Downtown Pittsburgh as your campus is unlike any other college experience. The location allows the University to foster great connections with businesses and organizations that hold significant value for students starting their careers.
