"I would recommend Point Park to any student who is looking for opportunity. Being in a large city creates more opportunities for the career path that I have chosen. I have visited and worked in all the venues in Pittsburgh either from my experiences in class or through other networking events. I can truly thank Point Park for that as the faculty have given me the knowledge, connections and desire to want to dive into the SAEM industry."

Describe your internship duties.

My internship entails a lot of the sales process of a growing organization. Like many other teams, the Otters are in a transition phase due to COVID. We are reaching out to our community partners old and new to get sponsorships for the upcoming 25th anniversary of the Otters organization. I really enjoy everything about the internship. I knew coming into this internship I wanted to gather as much information as I could about how the organization operates, and I am doing just that. I enjoy learning how the organization goes about preparing for the season and getting the experience in sales and marketing.

What are the key lessons you've learned from your internship?

Some of the key lessons that I have learned so far at the internship are the depth of the sales process and how to truly connect yourself with the customer, whether that is B2B or B2C. We cover those topics in classes at Point Park, but now that I've been in the moment with the customer or the business, I fully grasp the concepts.

How has the SAEM program helped you excel in your internship?

The professors in the courses that I have taken have been extremely helpful in my internship, especially Robert Derda. Not only did the information in his courses cover everything I am learning in my internship, but he taught me how to present myself during the interview process and throughout the internship. Professor Derda has also met with me several times outside of class to give me advice and guide me into the path that helped me land my internship. I can't give enough thanks to him and the many other professors here at Point Park that give us the advice and knowledge from their experience for us to learn and succeed.

What do you like about the SAEM faculty and coursework?

Having the professors who have worked, or still work, in the industry that they are teaching is such an incredible experience. It gives you an added value in your education. I really enjoy all of the stories that the professors share that they relate back to the coursework, and that makes it enjoyable and easier to understand the material.

Why would you recommend Point Park to a prospective student?

I would recommend Point Park to any student who is looking for opportunity. Being in a large city creates more opportunities for the career path that I have chosen. I have visited and worked in all the venues in Pittsburgh either from my experiences in class or through other networking events. I can truly thank Point Park for that as the faculty have given me the knowledge, connections and desire to want to dive into the SAEM industry.
