Accounting students Andre Bennett and Jenna Herman were awarded $4,000 and $3,000 scholarships, respectively, from the Pennsylvania CPA Foundation, part of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

“Point Park’s accounting program and its faculty have equipped me with the knowledge and tenacity to be one of the top accounting students in Pennsylvania. The faculty also does a great job of promoting scholarship opportunities from accounting organizations such as the PICPA,” said Bennett, an international senior accounting major from Cornwall College High School in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Herman, a junior from Neshannock High School in New Castle, Pa., said: “I was so excited and grateful to receive this scholarship, especially from such an amazing organization like the PICPA. Point Park, along with the Student Accounting Association, has exposed me to so many great opportunities.”

“The faculty have helped me to succeed academically and have made sure that I am getting the most out of my education. They are constantly using their real-world connections to open up opportunities for all students,” she added.

Bennett and Herman’s career goals both include earning a CPA license and working in the public accounting field.

This summer, Bennett has an accounting internship with PwC in Pittsburgh and Herman is a nonprofit management intern for the Mohawk Coffee House in Bessemer, Pa.

In the fall, Herman is looking forward to being president of Point Park’s Student Accounting Association while Bennett is excited to serve his last year as a member of Point Park’s track and field and soccer teams.

“I look forward to helping my team win the conference championships and hopefully make it to a national championship,” he said.

Point Park University accounting students have landed internships and full-time positions at a variety of leading companies such as the Bank of New York Mellon, Deloitte, EY (Ernst & Young)Herbein + Company, Inc., KPMGMaher Duessel, PNC, PPG Industries, Schneider Downs and more.
