"I found my internships and freelance experience to be the most rewarding and valuable parts of my time at Point Park. I learned a lot about the communications field and how the professional world works. If it weren't for these experiences, I probably wouldn't be in this position and would feel behind in the professional world."

What steps did you take to secure a position at Krakoff Communications so soon after graduating from Point Park?

I met Jeff Krakoff, president of Krakoff Communications, last summer when I was interning for the Allegheny Conference on Community Development's business affairs program, Our Region's Business, on Channel 11. We chatted about my experience and connected on LinkedIn. Late last fall, I was looking for a job upon graduation and noticed Jeff had posted a job opening. I submitted my cover letter and resume, we talked for a while, then I started freelancing for Jeff until I graduated.

What are your key responsibilities as the associate client executive?

Two days of the week, I work as a public relations professional for Hempfield Area School District in Westmoreland County. While there, I do communications, media relations, social media and more for the district. The other three days of the week, I help with our other clients. I typically do anything from write copy and running social media platforms to sending news pitches, press releases and more.

Highlight key experiences from your college career that prepared you for the professional world.

During my time at Point Park, I made it a point to get as many internships and outside experience as I could. I found my internships and freelance experience to be the most rewarding and valuable parts of my time at Point Park. I learned a lot about the communications field and how the professional world works. If it weren't for these experiences, I probably wouldn't be in this position and would feel behind in the professional world.

What advice do you have for high school students considering Point Park?

Take advantage of Point Park's location. If I had gone to school not located directly in Downtown Pittsburgh, I probably wouldn't have had the internship and freelance opportunities I experienced. Take advantage of being directly next to dozens and dozens of businesses looking for interns. Also take advantage of the connections you make through Point Park because you'll never know when you need them.

What were some of your favorite spots to hang out on campus and in Downtown Pittsburgh and why?

On campus, I loved hanging out in the Center for Media Innovation when I worked with the Point Park News Service. I also have so many great memories from the TV studio in the University Center from U-View shoots. Downtown, I love getting coffee at Adda Coffee & Tea House, walking at Point State Park and grabbing sushi from No. 1 Sushi Sushi in Market Square.
