WWE Superstar Turned Color Commentator Matt Polinsky, Known as Corey Graves on TV, Teaches Live Sports Production Course at Point Park University Tuesday, March 3, 2026
On television, Monroeville native Matt Polinsky is known as WWE's Corey Graves, a professional superstar turned color commentator. At Point Park University, however, Polinsky is a part-time instructor in the School of Communication, teaching the next generation of storytellers.
"I was invited to Point Park University as a guest speaker several times over the past few years," Polinsky said. "I enjoyed myself so much that when the opportunity arose to join the faculty in the School of Communication, I had to take it to dive a little deeper into what I do as a storyteller and bring it into the classroom. It's really an honor and a privilege to teach at Point Park."
Polinsky's Special Topics: Live Sports Production course meets once a week and emphasizes storytelling throughout broadcasting. Polinsky describes his classroom environment as very collaborative and hands-on.
"I believe stories can be told throughout sports, and beyond WWE and the sports entertainment bubble," he said. "I think the more we lean into that, the more enjoyable the broadcast comes across the board."
Austin Cairns '26, a sports communication major whose dream job is to be a WWE commentator, recommends this course for Polinsky's experience and care in helping the next generation of students.
"I have learned so much in Matt's class about the different skills and techniques he uses in WWE and how we can apply them to any broadcast. As someone working in Pittsburgh doing exactly what Matt is doing, I especially benefit from learning from him and picking his brain about the business," said Cairns.
Fellow sports communication major Matt Palange '26 agrees.
"I have learned how to properly engage an audience through verbal and visual storytelling, specifically how to format and build your storytelling," said Palange, whose dream job is to be a sports anchor. "Matt is extremely good at what he does and it's an honor to have him as a professor."
When asked for advice to students looking to follow in his footsteps, Polinsky said to take advantage of every opportunity.
"Don't say 'no,' because every opportunity is a learning experience, even if you don't want to do it," he said. "You will always learn something."
