Tell us about the work you do as a marketing intern.

My internship has consisted of researching and writing for the Edgar Snyder & Associates blog. I have also had the opportunity to get an inside look at social media ad planning and execution within the marketing department. Some of my days have involved working with staff members on client development, reviewing and brainstorming marketing plans, writing press releases and learning various law firm programs. I have enjoyed spending time looking at our social outreach projects and offering some ideas for the future.

What do you enjoy the most about this internship?

I have really enjoyed working with a team of professionals who have developed their skills and have a breadth of knowledge to share. Writing is one of my passions, and this internship has helped me develop a voice for blogs and PR writing.

What factors led you to pursue a graduate degree at Point Park?

Point Park University has a strong communications department. I found that the M.A. in Media Communication was a great fit for my interests and career goals. I like the flexibility in the programs, like on ground, hybrid and online courses. I value an education that is provided by professionals who have real experience in the field. It's great to be a part of a campus community that is Downtown with so many opportunities to meet varying professionals.

How is the M.A. program helping you to reach your career goals?

The M.A. in Media Communication is a great program for gaining knowledge in current technological channels of communication, improving professional writing skills, developing multimedia know-how and understanding how these can apply to marketing. I hope to work as a marketing manager or communications guru in the future.

What have been your favorite graduate classes?

I was surprised to find the Communication Law and Regulation course to be one of my favorites. Dr. Aimee-Marie Dorsten is an incredibly engaging teacher and the content, which included the evolution of cases regarding freedom of the press and freedom of speech, was not only valuable to my future career, but also was interesting as a common citizen. The Writing and Editing in the Journalistic Style course, which was taught by Professor Bill Moushey, challenged me and my writing skills in a new way. I have had little experience with journalistic writing, but Professor Moushey helped to push my abilities and offer his expertise in journalism.

What advice do you have for graduate students?

I would tell any graduate students that they should enjoy the opportunity to gain a higher level of education and to take advantage of the events, organizations and educators on campus. If you want to excel, you have to be willing to work and seek out information. At Point Park, you have endless possibilities to network Downtown.
