Michele Tabaka

Tell us about your career path since you graduated from Point Park University. 

I was the marketing manager for a gourmet and speciality food distributor – The John Heineman Company – after graduating from Point Park. While I was there, I brought on Point Park student and now alumnus Anthony Conti (COMM '14) as a marketing intern. Additionally, I spearheaded one of the first food truck roundups in Pittsburgh, as well as hosted an event in our warehouse with Brooklyn Brewing. 

After gaining experience in the marketing field, I took a leap of faith and moved to Washington, D.C. Within my first month I came across a position at The Washington Post, and here I am today. I have held several titles at The Post: digital account manager, senior advertising coordinator and account manager. Last year, I had the opportunity to host Point Park students at the new state-of-the-art Washington Post building. Two of my closest professors, Helen Fallon and Bob O'Gara, accompanied the students. It's a day I will never forget!

What are your key responsibilities as an account manager?

As a part of the advertising team, I work closely with advertising agencies and marketing managers to analyze marketing needs and recommend appropriate advertising solutions per each client’s budget.

What college experiences impact you most in your career? 

The experiences that impact me most include the opportunity to present a marketing campaign at the National Advertising Competition in New York City. My classmates and I traveled with Bob O'Gara to compete against other colleges and universities. Secondly, I was the event coordinator of the fashion club’s first fashion show where student models showcased how to dress in the workplace. 

What advice do you have for a student interested in Point Park?

Get involved in as many extracurricular activities as possible, and take advantage of the city and the opportunities it has to offer. 

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I would love to attribute my success and confidence to Professor Bob O’Gara. Bob has supported me every step of the way. I am forever grateful for building that relationship with him at Point Park.
