2025 STARMAKERS Gala Celebrates 90 Years of the Pittsburgh Playhouse and Sets the Stage for a Bold and Inspiring Future in the Arts at Point Park University Tuesday, May 6, 2025

Guests enjoyed dinner on the stage of the PNC Theatre in Point Park University's Pittsburgh Playhouse during the STARMAKERS Gala.
"It is truly an honor to celebrate the triumphant return of the STARMAKERS Gala after nearly 15 years. This evening is especially significant as we mark 90 years of the Pittsburgh Playhouse, a cornerstone of artistic excellence that has inspired generations of performers and audiences."
The 2025 STARMAKERS Gala celebrated 90 years of the Pittsburgh Playhouse's enduring legacy in Pittsburgh and set the stage for a bold and inspiring future in the arts at Point Park University. Dr. Lisa M. Cibik, chair of the Point Park Board of Trustees, and Jimmy Miller, a member of the Board of Trustees, were honorary co-chairs of the black-tie gala, held April 25 in the Pittsburgh Playhouse.
"It is truly an honor to celebrate the triumphant return of the STARMAKERS Gala after nearly 15 years," said Dr. Chris W. Brussalis, president of Point Park. "This evening is especially significant as we mark 90 years of the Pittsburgh Playhouse, a cornerstone of artistic excellence that has inspired generations of performers and audiences."
The ticketed event began with a cocktail reception in the lobby of the Pittsburgh Playhouse and the Charity Randall Performance Plaza. It was followed by an exclusive first look at ASCEND, the Playhouse’s new production, which runs through May 18.

Guests were then invited to the PNC Theatre stage for dinner as they watched a dazzling performance by Conservatory of Performing Arts students and met their hosts for the evening, Mikey Hood and David Highfield from KDKA’s “Pittsburgh Today Live.”
"What an honor it is to be your hosts for the return of STARMAKERS," Highfield said. "This evening is so special as we celebrate the bright futures of the stars in the Conservatory of Performing Arts."
Hood added: "We will also reflect on the Pittsburgh Playhouse legacy that paved the way for these aspiring hopefuls and for the generations to come."
Throughout the evening, attendees also took part in a silent auction featuring special items and experiences.
Next, Kiesha Lalama, M.F.A., interim dean, School of Theatre, Film and Animation, and executive producer of the Pittsburgh Playhouse, spoke about the Playhouse's legacy to set the stage for a special 90th anniversary video.
"Your support allows for arts and culture to flourish, imagination to thrive and humanity to unite," Lalama said. "90 years of arts and entertainment have proven to be one extraordinary story. Through the years, our mission remains the same: to transform lives through art that captivates, enlightens and entertains."
Leading Players Award

Dr. Cibik, gala co-chair, then presented the Leading Players Award to recognize two individuals who have supported Point Park, the Playhouse and the entire Pittsburgh region.
"The strength of the Playhouse today is a testament to the steadfast commitment of our leading players, Anne Lewis, board chair of Oxford Development Co., and former chair of Point Park’s Board of Trustees, and Clifford Rowe, executive chairman of P.J. Dick.," said Dr. Cibik. "Our leading players are recognized for their deep understanding of the vital roles that community engagement, economic development and innovative strategy play in our success. Their determination, creativity and integrity have been indispensable to our journey."
2025-26 Season Announcement Preview

Following dinner, guests were treated to the Playhouse's 2025-26 season announcement preview show, performed by students and faculty, in the PNC Theatre.
"We are thrilled to share a season with unforgettable theatre, dance, music, family-friendly events and festivals for everyone to enjoy," said Lalama. "We are so excited to announce the inspiring season ahead, as we invite you to gather for shared experiences and embrace the power of live theatre."
Staying true to a treasured Pittsburgh tradition, participants enjoyed a Pittsburgh cookie table for dessert, followed by dancing in the Highmark Theatre to close out the evening.
“The outpouring of support for the return of STARMAKERS has been truly inspiring," Brussalis said. "We are deeply grateful for the generosity of our individual and corporate sponsors, whose commitment has helped make this beloved event a reality once again. Thanks to the backing of the Pittsburgh community, we were so proud to bring the gala back — bigger and better than ever.”
