Internationally renowned Springboard Danse — recognized worldwide as a destination for career development — returns to Point Park University for SpringboardX Pittsburgh on Nov. 8 and 9.
SpringboardX Pittsburgh includes two days of immersive workshops in the university's George Rowland White Performance Center, offering dancers an opportunity to experience and connect with the Springboard community in a non-audition setting.
Celebrated Springboard artists Akira Uchida ("Nowness," "Play Me Techno" and "Share the Movement") and Ingrid Kapteyn ("Punchdrunk," "Welcome to Campfire" and the Metropolitan Opera) will guide dancers through workshops that blend storytelling, theatricality, improvisation and contemporary technique, while sharing skills for building diverse and successful careers.
“SpringboardX workshops help dancers build skills to support successful careers, and I’m so excited to see them delve into the worlds of these two Springboard artists,” said Alexandra Wells, founder and artistic director of Springboard. “We hope that Pittsburgh dancers will join us for a taste of our summer project experience.”
Second Year of Springboard's Summer Project Continues at Point Park in 2026
After 24 years in Montréal, Springboard Danse launched a five-year partnership with Point Park University designed to bolster the next generation of contemporary dance artists. The inaugural Springboard Danse | Pittsburgh summer project, held May 30 - June 13, welcomed 120 dancers, 18 companies and choreographers from around the world to campus.
“Our partnership with Springboard Danse has been everything we hoped it would be and more,” said Garfield Lemonius, M.F.A., School of Dance dean and artistic director of the Conservatory of Performing Arts. “They brought a wonderful energy and vitality to both Point Park and Downtown Pittsburgh. We are thrilled this partnership will continue in the years ahead.”
Springboard Danse | Pittsburgh returns May 24 - June 12, 2026. The audition and application process opens in November 2025.
Springboard’s summer project facilitates employment opportunities, commissions and relationships with lifelong collaborators. As part of the project, they produced three major events: PLATFORM, a public showing of works from their Resident, Fellow and Emerging Choreographers, ABYSS, an iterative and site-specific dance/sound performance in the Smithfield-Liberty Garage by Resident Choreographer slowdanger, and an invitation-only final industry showing that connects directors, producers, agents and casting teams with Springboard artists.
Springboard also forged partnerships with several Pittsburgh organizations, including physical therapists from UMPC, who were on-site daily to aid the dancers.
ABYSS was co-presented by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust as a part of the Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival, in collaboration with ProjectileObjects, with support from the Pittsburgh Parking Authority, Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership and Citizens Financial Group.
Additionally, Dean Lemonius has offered three 2025 Springboard Emerging Choreographers commissions to create works for upcoming Conservatory Dance Company performances at the university's Pittsburgh Playhouse.
