"It's Never Too Late to Study Abroad:" Principal Certification Student Amy Fedorski Completes Field Experience in Ireland Thursday, November 5, 2026
"This is one of the best experiences I have ever had. Always remember, you are never too old to explore and study abroad."
Amy Fedorski, a student in the principal PK–12 certificate program, spent two weeks in Ireland this summer participating in a field experience at SEK International School Dublin.
During this immersive experience available to both undergraduate and graduate students, Point Park students work directly with PK–12 students from Spain who are learning English as a second language.
Fedorski taught middle and high school students in Greystones, Ireland, about 30 minutes from Dublin.
"As a special education teacher, I am familiar with barriers that come with teaching and learning," Fedorski said. "I appreciated my experiences in Ireland that demonstrated how important clear communication is. I was very fortunate that most of my students were able to speak English, and I appreciated their efforts to learn more."
In addition to classes, students had excursions to Bray and Greystone beaches, historic Glendalough and camping out on the school property.
"I thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the students, celebrating the World Cup with the students from Spain and taking them horseback riding."
Fedorski, a mother of three, felt the teaching abroad experience also offered her a personal adventure, especially since it was her first time traveling internationally alone.
"I found Ireland to be enchanting and very safe," Fedorski said. "I enjoyed wandering around Greystones, trying coffee shops, eating pastries, reading books on the beach and visiting the local farmer's market. I really enjoyed learning about Irish history and culture from my host family. One of my favorite experiences was when my host took me to a secluded beach for a yoga class. The view was breathtaking, and the experience was so peaceful."
Fedorski enjoyed the trip so much she's considering returning next summer, and recommends it to any School of Education student: "This is one of the best experiences I have ever had. Always remember, you are never too old to explore and study abroad. I am a mum of three, married and 44 years old... it is never too late."
