Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O’Connor will be Point Park University’s featured 2026 Commencement speaker.

Commencement will be at 12:30 p.m., Friday, May 8, at Petersen Events Center at the University of Pittsburgh.

“As a true Pittsburgher, Mayor O’Connor understands this region as well as anyone. He comes with a lifelong record of public service and being a champion for the best of what we have to offer,” said Dr. Chris W. Brussalis, President of Point Park. “How exciting for our graduates to hear from someone with that kind of lived experience before they head out into the real world.”

O’Connor is the sixty-second mayor of the City of Pittsburgh. He has served his hometown in elected office since 2012 as City Councilman for District 5 for a decade and then as the Allegheny County Controller. He was elected mayor in 2025 and brings with him a record of listening and prioritizing the voices of Pittsburgh residents, including its most vulnerable; making tough decisions under difficult circumstances; helping to deliver effective and efficient city services; and leading transformational change that maximizes opportunity and growth for all Pittsburghers.

“I am honored to be the featured Commencement speaker for Point Park University’s Class of 2026,” O’Connor said. “I admire these graduates’ drive, innovation and leadership, and I look forward to cheering them on as they move into their next chapter and shape the future of Pittsburgh and beyond.”
