High School Students Create Communications Plan for a Real Client

Pitch Competition for High School Students to Win $500

Partnering with Dick's Sporting Goods, high school students developed a high-level marketing communications plan at Point Park University's annual Point Pitch competition on November 14, 2025, to win a $500 prize for the best campaign.

Teams of up to six high school students worked on an integrated marketing communications plan for DICK'S House of Sport. 

The teams were paired with a professional mentor from the Pittsburgh public relations and advertising industry, who provided networking opportunities and guidance. The teams produced everything from the big idea to creative executions and strategy. 

About the Client

As the largest sporting goods retailer in the United States, the mission of DICK'S Sporting Goods is to inspire, support and equip athletes to achieve their dreams. DICK'S House of Sport, a multi-sport experiential store, is the destination for all things sport.

Fall 2025

Client: Dick's Sporting Goods
Winner: A team from North Allegheny Intermediate High School won the $500 prize for their big idea: "Home of Sport: More than Just a Store," with the idea that even though it's a House of Sport, it's really a HOME for family, legacy, community, etc.  

Eighteen Local Industry Professionals Serve as Mentors to Students

Thirty-two teams were paired with a professional mentor from the Pittsburgh public relations and advertising industry, who provided networking opportunities and guidance. Teams produced everything from the big idea to creative executions and strategy. 

Twenty-One High Schools Bring Nearly 190 Students to Point Pitch

Point Pitch welcomed nearly 190 students from 21 local high schools, including:
