Monday, July 20 - Friday, July 31, 2026 | Residential & Commuter Options

Session 1: July 20 - 24, 2026

Session 2: July 27 - July 31, 2026

Our Summer Dance Workshop is a dance intensive designed to build a student's technique, etiquette, and choreography comprehension.  The curriculum includes daily technique classes in ballet, hip hop, jazz, and modern to reflect the concentrations and majors related to the School of Dance. Classes will be in-person Monday through Friday at our studios located in the George Rowland White Performance Center.

We welcome students into this program who are at a beginner/intermediate, intermediate/advanced, or advanced level of dance. Unfortunately, if this is your first time dancing, we recommend another program more suitable for your needs as we do not offer a beginner level for 2026.

Although no audition is required, students must be familiar with basic dance terms and techniques. Summer Dance Workshop (also known as SDW) is designed to serve as a bridge to prepare dancers for our more rigorous International Summer Dance program.

To participate in the Summer Dance Workshop, students must be 10 to 18 years of age.  The program is capped at 60 dancers each week. Based on student level self-selection, the Office of Pre-College Programs may reach out if specific levels have too many students assigned to a studio.

Students will have the ability to choose a class level for EACH class prior to the start of the workshop. Be sure to choose a level for each individual technique class (ballet, jazz, and modern), as some may have different abilities in different genres of dance.

The first two days of the workshop will be considered “trial” classes. If an instructor believes you may benefit from a different level, you will be notified of a level change. If the level that you are currently in might be too much and you may need to move down a level, please email summercamps@pointpark.edu to request a switch down a level. We want to make sure that you benefit as much as possible from this workshop and want to do all that we can in order for that to happen.

To help both the instructors and the students with the flow of the curriculum, if you do request to switch, you must then stay in the category you switched to for the duration of the workshop.

For 2026, the Beginner level is phased out with newly built requirements and guidelines below to reference when choosing a level during registration. If in the future the Beginner level is to return, there may be 4 levels to choose from.

Beginner/Intermediate:
Dancers in this category typically receive fewer than 5 hours of technical training per week and have been dancing for 4 years or less. This level is recommended for ages 10–12, though dancers outside this range who meet the above criteria are also welcome to participate.

Intermediate/Advanced:
Dancers in this category generally receive 5–7 hours of technical training per week and have been dancing for 4 - 6 years. They demonstrate a solid technical foundation, developing versatility, and growing performance quality. This level is recommended for ages 13–15, though dancers outside this range who meet the training and experience criteria—and who are ready for a higher level of challenge—may also join this category.

Advanced:
Dancers in this category typically receive 8 or more hours of technical training per week and have been dancing for a minimum of 6 years. These dancers exhibit strong technical ability, performance artistry, and advanced retention skills. This level is recommended for ages 16–18, though younger dancers who meet the above criteria and demonstrate exceptional technique, maturity, and work ethic may also be considered.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
Leotard and tights for each class (solid colors encouraged, form-fitting to see alignment and technique)
Ballet: Ballet shoes recommended
Modern: No shoes needed
Jazz: Any jazz shoes

Living On Campus

If students would like to live on campus during Summer Dance Workshop, we ask that you move-in on Sunday, July 19, 2026 or Sunday, July 26, 2026 between the hours of 1-4pm.  You will meet your Resident Assistant, go over the rules of living on campus and will receive a handbook.  Students attending both weeks of Summer Dance Workshop are permitted to remain on campus during the weekend of Friday, July 24, 2026 through Sunday, July 26, 2026. Programming and events are scheduled with Resident Assistants during the evenings and on weekends to keep students busy and involved.

The option to live on campus during this program is available to students at least 14 years old.

We will do our best to fulfill roommate requests, but requests are NOT guaranteed. Students will have the opportunity to enter requests during the registration process.

Each residence hall has multiple points of secure access to student living areas, such as keycards, access codes, and lock and key.

Adult resident assistants (RAs) live on campus to supervise students who are minors. Each RA is responsible for eight to ten minors.

"I enjoy coming back to this Dance Workshop each year because it's a great environment to learn and dance in. Also the teachers are super nice and they are also very helpful!"
