U-View is Point Park University's news station, with content exclusively written, filmed and produced by students. With shows that cover sports, entertainment and news, it offers a variety of content for viewers and hands-on experience for the students who create the shows.

Julianna Brock '26, a broadcasting major and public relations and advertising minor, is the station manager, on-air talent and the producer for one of the shows. Brock answered some questions for us about U-View.

Tell us about your roles on U-View.

As the station manager, it is my job to oversee the production and execution of all five shows. I organize the schedule for the station to coordinate workshops and events. As a producer, my co-producers and I put together a show each week to be executed, edited and posted. For on-air and crew, I write stories and anchor, host or report for the other shows. We are all contributors to each other's shows.

Why is U-View an important organization to have on campus?

U-View is an important organization to have on campus because it allows students hands-on experience. It is the place for all students, no matter their year or their major, to learn any role they want in television. Students can work together, grow their collaboration and creativity skills, and put together products they are proud of.

U-View is an organization driven by passion. Each member is passionate about what they contribute to the club, and anyone willing to learn and join is more than welcome. This gives the experience of a real newsroom, with the luxury of being able to make mistakes and learn from them rather than face repercussions.

What has been a highlight of your time in U-View?

A highlight in my time at U-View has been the opportunity to grow my skills in both broadcast and leadership. I never would've imagined my freshman year that as a senior, I would be producing a show and be the station manager, but this organization provided me the opportunity to learn and grow.

Also, the friendships made at U-View will last forever. Everyone is willing to help each other and support one another through it all. Leaving U-View is heartbreaking because it is like leaving my family. But it truly has me leaving feeling confident in my skills. They are skills that you can't learn by sitting in a classroom.

How have you personally benefited from participating in U-View?

I personally benefited from U-View by expanding my broadcast and leadership skills. I learned how to work equipment, write broadcast stories, produce shows, manage a station, edit, create graphics and be on-air. I learned everything that I need to know for after graduation at U-View.

Why should students join U-View?

Students should join U-View because it is a chance for them to learn in a real-world environment without the stakes. This is a place to learn, grow and push yourselves to do the best you can. If you make a mistake, that is okay, because this is a patient learning space. Everyone is here to learn, grow, teach one another and do their best.

How can a student get involved?

A student can get involved in U-View by simply showing up. Even if it is the last month of the year, it is still not too late. Email me at jrbrock@pointpark.edu or come to the studio on the first floor of the University Center and we will get you set up to join!
